Sqn Ldr James Nair took over as the sixth Administrative Officer of SS Ambikapur on 20 May 2024. The officer was commissioned in the Meteorological branch of Indian Air Force on 14 Dec 2013.

Sqn Ldr James hails from Surat, Gujarat and is a Post Graduate in Physics from National Institute of Technology (NIT), Surat, with specialization in Optofluidics. While pursuing his higher studies, the officer was selected for fully paid research internships in the field of Ultrafast lasers at University of Duisburg, Germany and Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Mohali. He has also published two scientific papers in Physics Review Letters (PRL), USA. Post joining IAF, the officer completed his PG Diploma in Meteorology from Bharathiar University, Coimbatore. The officer is a Qualified Ground Instructor from Ground Instructors School (GIS), Air Force Station Tambaram with Exceptional grading.

Post commissioning, the officer has been posted to various field units as Meteorological Officer. The officer was also posted as Directing Staff (DS) in Meteorology at Air Force Academy (AFA) Dundigal, Hyderabad. Prior to joining SS Ambikapur, the officer held the post of Senior Meteorological Officer (S Met O) at a field unit in Rajasthan.

Sqn Ldr James is a good motivator and has been successful in guiding a good number of students from his own Alma Mater to join the Armed Forces. The officer is also a mentor to the students of NCC, NIT Surat chapter.

The officer loves playing badminton, listening to music as well as cooking in his leisure time. He is married to Mrs. Simi Pillai, an interior designer and they are blessed with two sons, Stephen and Noah.
